We are hosting a series of events across the UK to tell you how the resource is being used. We held two initial events in Edinburgh over Christmas and New Year, as there has been a particularly high number of research applications from Scotland to use the resource. More recently we hosted a similar event on the 18th March at the Village hotel in Bury, Manchester and propose others in Manchester in the near future.
Participants in Bury heard from scientists Professor Kenneth Muir and Dr Piers Dawes, both based at Manchester University, on their health research being conducted using the UK Biobank resource. The evening covered a range of topics from imaging to genetics to hearing loss, and more details on how the resource is being made more useful for researchers by UK Biobank. With the opportunity for questions and discussion over a glass of wine, an enjoyable evening was had by all.
Participant feedback:
“Evening exceeded expectations, all presentations were excellent. Particularly liked to know where the data was being applied”.
“Most valuable insights into uses of Biobank and the potential benefits – big science made very clear”.
The first of many; we now have a series of events planned for 2015. Look out for your invitation to an event in your area over the coming months. We are looking forward to meeting you!
