Research Aims: Our study focuses on improving the treatment of AF in people who also have cancer. By considering genetic information, biomarkers reflecting health conditions, and advanced heart imaging, we aim to tailor AF treatments to individual needs. We want to determine whether this personalized strategy yields better outcomes compared to the standard approach.

Scientific Rationale: The intricate relationship between cancer and AF is well recognized. Cancer and its treatments can elevate the risk of AF, while AF occurrence can also predict the presence of cancer. Emerging cancer therapies might have unexpected effects on the heart. Our research seeks to explore the feasibility of individualizing AF management by incorporating genetic insights and cardiac health information.

Methods: We will enroll adults diagnosed with both AF and cancer. Gathering comprehensive data, including demographic details, cancer characteristics, AF specifics, genetic profiles, and cardiac imaging findings, will be a vital part of our study. We will analyze the frequency of AF events, the range of treatments employed, instances of AF recurrence, and occurrences of significant cardiovascular events and mortality.

Data Analysis: Our analysis will involve statistical methods to describe the collected data, compare different groups (e.g., patients with specific biomarkers), and explore potential predictive factors for AF. We will assess whether genetic variations and cardiac imaging results can effectively forecast AF occurrences. Additionally, we will investigate whether tailoring treatments based on individual characteristics leads to improved outcomes.

Public Health Impact: This research holds substantial potential to enhance the care of individuals dealing with the dual challenge of cancer and AF. By customizing treatment plans, we anticipate reduced treatment-related complications and improved overall well-being.
