The Ethics & Governance Council (EGC) is an independent body chaired by Graeme Laurie, Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at the University of Edinburgh. The Council was appointed by an independent Appointments Committee. The role of the EGC is to act as an independent guardian of UK Biobank’s Ethics & Governance Framework (EGF), to advise the Board on the conformance of UK Biobank’s activities with this framework and to safeguard the interests of the participants and the public. The Council will also advise UK Biobank on the future development of the EGF.
