Consent and withdrawal

  1. Can I discuss this invitation with my relative/partner/friend/GP before deciding and let you know?

Yes, of course, we would encourage you to do so. Also more information on UK Biobank is available in the further information leaflet, which is available from the website (www.ukbiobank.ac.uk) or I can send you a copy.

  2. What happens if I change my mind later on?

You will not have agreed to take part in the study until you sign the consent form at your assessment centre visit. You are free to withdraw at any time from the study without giving us a reason. You are welcome to discuss concerns with us at any time, and the various options you have for withdrawal (which are included in the information leaflet we sent you with the invitation letter.

  3. Who do I tell if I decide to withdraw?

You can either call us on this number or write to:

If you provide us with a contact number we will phone you back to discuss the various options you have for withdrawal.

  4. Can my relatives withdraw consent after my death?

No. Only you can give consent and only you can withdraw it. This is because it is important that researchers have access to information on people who have died to help them understand disease.
