- I am disabled and usually have hospital transport. Will you arrange and pay for this?
You can arrange for a taxi and ask for a travel expenses claim form at your visit. Your costs will then be reimbursed by cheque or postal order in about 1-2 weeks. Please remember to ask the taxi driver for a receipt. The building does have full disabled access, but if you use a wheelchair, please remember to bring it with you (as the assessment centre does not have wheelchairs).
- I use a wheelchair - does that matter?
No, the centre has full disabled access and toilets which will accommodate a wheelchair (but please remember to bring it with you as the assessment centre does not have wheelchairs). We will not ask you to undergo any measurements that will cause you difficulty.
- I have a hearing/visual/physical impairment. Will there be someone to help me when I come for assessment?
Yes, please let us know what kind of help you need and we will do our best to make arrangements for this.
- I can't read very well/see well enough to read the small print. Can you send me a Braille/audio version of the information?
Unfortunately we don't have a Braille version available. However if you have access to the internet and have an Adobe Reader on your computer you will be able to hear a 'read-out-loud' version of the information sheet.
- I'm dyslexic/have poor eyesight/can't read - can someone help me?
Yes, please let us know what kind of help you need and we will arrange for someone to help you with the questionnaire. Please be aware that some of the questions are very personal (although these can generally be missed out if you prefer).
- Can my husband/wife/partner/other relative/friend come with me, and will you pay their travel expenses?
You can certainly have someone accompany you on the visit. However, we are only able to pay travel expenses for your companion if you are disabled and need their help to travel. If this is the case, please remember to keep all receipts, or tickets, for both of you. We will ask you to complete a participant expense claim form which can be picked up at the clinic. We will ask you to attach all original travel receipts for the round trip made for your UK Biobank's appointment and return the it to the address stated on the form. You will be reimbursed by cheque or postal order in about 1-2 weeks.
- I am disabled and live alone. I need an escort. Will you arrange and pay for this?
Unfortunately, we cannot arrange an escort for you. However, if your own escort accompanies you we can pay their travel costs. Please remember to keep all receipts or tickets for both of you. We will ask you to complete a participant expense claim form which can be picked up at the clinic. We will ask you to attach all original travel receipts for the round trip made for your UK Biobank's appointment and return it to the address stated on the form. You will be reimbursed by cheque or postal order in about 1-2 weeks.
- Is there disabled parking?
Yes. We can reserve a parking space for you.
