Wednesday 10th January 2024 saw the publication of a new paper in the journal Science Translational Medicine, titled ‘Prospective study design and data analysis in UK Biobank’, authored by UK Biobank and members of its Strategic Oversight Committee.
The paper describes how the approach to its study design, data access policy and statistical analysis can reduce bias. It also provides some considerations for how to set up similar studies for health research in other populations, based on the authors’ experience of UK Biobank.
Read the full paper to find out more about how researchers can use UK Biobank to study a range of health conditions at the population level, and what analyses will help to allow for a minimum of error and bias in study outputs.
This is the author’s version of the work. It is posted here by permission of AAAS for personal use, not for redistribution. The definitive version was published in Science Translational Medicine on 10 January 2024, DOI: 10.1126/scitranslmed.adf4428.
