To determine the life-course effects of alcohol misuse and hazardous use on health and well-being – including injury, mental health, emotional and cognitive development and decline, and on educational attainment and health service utilisation. This will be done by cross-cohort analyses including UK Biobank, ALSPAC, The Health and Social Needs study and The Caerphilly Study.
The current proposal is not linked to the DPUK project. These analyses will inform the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of alcohol-related harm throughout society. This will be achieved by working with stakeholders in both policy, practice and the third sector to bring relevance to the analyses and facilitate outputs that have utility in challenging harmful alcohol use in the UK and internationally. We use data from UKB and other cohorts (see aims) to estimate the association of alcohol related outcomes with a wide range of environmental and social risk factors.
