We hope to use the UK Biobank data to design and test state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms for understanding how the genome influences the progression of disease. The stated aim of the UK Biobank is `improving the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of serious and life-threatening illnesses.` Whereas there have been a lot of methods proposed for determining influence of the genome on a static picture of disease, we are interested in looking at how the genome influences the progression of disease. We will apply state-of-the-art time-series algorithms to analyze how the genome influences the progression of disease. One key aspect of our work will be to ensure that these state-of-the-art algorithm scale to large sample sizes, and hence we would like to have access to as much of the cohort as possible.
