Aim: To identify social, lifestyle, medical and genetic risk factors for development of hypertension and its complications
Scientific rationale: Hypertension is the most common condition and is the major cause for heart diseases and kidney diseases. Beside lifestyle factors such as exercise and diet, other genetics factors and medical diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis and depression) may also cause hypertension. This project will examine various genetic, social, medical and lifestyle factors that are associated with the development of hypertension and is complications
Project duration: 2 years
Public health impact: By identifying most important risk factors, people can modify their lifestyle to prevent hypertension. Furthermore, regular and intensive screening of blood pressure can be provided to people who are at high risk of development of hypertension
