We observed that elevated levels of certain proteins in a patient’s blood are associated with poor clinical outcomes in cardiovascular or COVID-19 clinical trials. To understand if blood testing for these proteins could benefit patients with cardiovascular disease, respiratory infections or other diseases, we aim to identify participants with these elevated protein levels in over 52,000 participants in the UK Biobank Proteomics Dataset and compare health outcomes with participants that have low/normal levels of these proteins. The results will inform us if a clinical test for these proteins could help to improve current ways of identifying and treating individuals at higher risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and strokes, and deaths from respiratory diseases.
