Research questions: Which specific systemic medications are associated with an increased or decreased incidence of common retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy? Can we identify biomarkers that predict the response of retinal tissues to systemic medications, thus enabling personalized treatment strategies for patients at risk of or already suffering from retinal diseases?
Aims: This study aims to comprehensively identify and classify systemic medications that have a significant impact on the incidence and progression of major retinal diseases through large-scale epidemiological studies and data mining. Additionally, it endeavors to discover and validate potential biomarkers that can be used to predict the response of retinal diseases to systemic medications, with the ultimate goal of developing more targeted and effective therapeutic approaches for patients with retinal diseases.
