Decisions content editors have made along the way when building pages to establish our in house style – always start with an intro line summarising what the page is for.

Block background colours

If not wanting white, use hummus first and foremost.

The pink tint should be used for ‘alerts’ – for example a message about website maintenance, data security, or similar.

Don’t use the orange tint as it doesn’t work for the new UK Biobank brand.

Slab or section?

When building a page, slabs tend to work best for landing pages or pages with lots of content that can be broken up easily.

If the page is more information based / you want content to flow without big gaps which slabs automatically put before and after, using sections works better.

Buttons

Always use the ‘pointy outline’ style in whichever colour you choose for buttons as this ensures the button looks more ‘actionable.’
