Principal Investigator: Dr Jae Kyu Choi
Approved Research ID: 116271
Approval date: November 8th 2023

Lay summary

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading global cause of death, often diagnosed in the later stages when symptoms appear. This results in delayed interventions that are costly and less effective. Therefore, it is crucial to achieve an early, quantifiable evaluation of CVDs to enable preventive care and early treatment. To facilitate this approach, there is growing potential for large scale population-based imaging studies of CVDs, thanks to the emergence of standardized, reliable non-invasive imaging techniques and the infrastructure for analyzing large sets of data. These advancements create new avenues for acquiring fresh insights into the development and progression of CVDs among diverse populations. During the 36-month research period, our objective is to develop and validate a fully automated cardiovascular disease pipeline based on a large scale cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) image analysis and prediction. We believe that our proposed pipeline can help achieve early quantitative assessment that allows for a proper preventive care, as well as an early cardiovascular treatment.
