Evaluation of phenotype characteristics and biomarkers of Resistant Hypertension
Approved Research ID: 77916

Lay summary
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a major problem. Hypertension that is not controlled with three or more antihypertensive medications is called Resistant Hypertension (RH). Uncontrolled blood pressure can lead to heart attacks, heart failures, strokes, and kidney failure. If left untreated, it can lead to an increased risk of being hospitalised, increased risk of early death, and increased burden on the health care system.
However, the underlying mechanism of resistant hypertension is not widely investigated, and it remains unclear.
The aim of this research is to study patients with RH who are on three or more antihypertensive medications and compare their phenotypes (observable characteristics and blood tests) with patients, not on any antihypertensive medications and those on less than three antihypertensive medications for hypertension.
Thus, identifying the association of RH will allow to understand better the causes of RH and help improve the treatment of these patients. Thus, preventing any early complications associated with it.
The duration of this project isĀ 24 months.
