Approved Research ID: 107147
Approval date: October 26th 2023
Lay summary
Obesity is a significant global health issue, associated with numerous comorbidities, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. This research proposal is to use UK Biobank data to further investigate the genetic and environmental factors contributing to obesity. We estimate that this research will take 3 years to complete, with the first 2 year focused on data analysis and the last year dedicated to interpretation and dissemination of results. Given the global health impact of obesity and the unique resource offered by the UK Biobank, our study has the potential to significantly contribute to the understanding of obesity. This could ultimately improve prevention and treatment strategies, benefiting not only the UK but the global community.
