Impact of Genetic Variability on Drug Response for Commonly Used Drugs and Challenging Drugs in Clinical Practice

Principal Investigator: Dr Mustafa Malki
Approved Research ID: 91472
Approval date: October 19th 2022

Lay summary

This project will try to discover genetic variants which could change our response to commonly used drugs and or challenging drugs. People differ from each other , some could respond to therapy while others aren't. Similarly, some could experience side effects while others aren't. Part of that could be explained by genetic variability between patients. By identifying these variants, in the future, it would be possible to predict your response to drugs before prescribing it so health care providers can decide whether it is the most appropriate drug for you from genetic profile. This project could last 3 years or more as multiple drugs and variants are will be considered.
