Investigating genetic causal correlations of food allergy with human common diseases in UK Biobank cohort

Principal Investigator: Professor Shitao Rao

Approval date: June 22nd 2023

Lay summary

Accumulating observational studies imply that food allergy may be related to several human common diseases, such as respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and mood disorders. However, these relationships obtained from observational studies could be affected by several major limitations, including a number of confounding factors, reverse causations, and comorbidities, which substantially reduce the stability and accuracy of the potential correlations. Therefore, the proposed research project aims to elucidate the causal correlations of food allergy with various human common diseases.

The proposed project is expected to last for 36 months. The findings from this project are not only probably to decipher the complex genetic structure of food allergy and human common diseases, but also establish causal correlations of food allergic diseases and their related human common diseases.
