Investigating the influence of genetic, environmental, and other factors on the risk of cardiovascular death.
Lay summary
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women. The progression and severity of heart disease are influenced by many factors, including one's genetic makeup, exposure to different environments and stressors, and even other diseases. We will use machine learning and the UK Biobank data to predict which combinations of factors increase the risk of heart disease-related death. The results of this study will benefit individuals who can be made aware of risk factors and receive appropriate health education and interventions. The study, which is expected to last 3 years, will benefit healthcare systems, including the NHS, by reducing death rates and the health costs of managing heart disease by identifying individuals for prevention or earlier treatments.
