Lay summary

The major aim of this proposal is to use the environmental, genetics, cardiac MRI, clinical and lifestyle data produced by the UK BioBank to develop new risk prediction models for each ethnicity, particularly in Asians and South East Asians. The UK BioBank stated purpose is to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of illnesses including cancer, heart diseases, stroke, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, eye disorders, depression and forms of dementia. Our proposal aims to examine different phenotypes for risk prediction models for each ethnicity. By developing risk prediction models for each ethnicity, we hope to translate key findings into clinical utility, ultimately leading to advances in the diagnosis, prediction, and reduction of cardiovascular mortality. We will use environmental, cardiac MRI, genetics, clinical and lifestyle information to develop risk prediction models for each ethnicity (e.g., risk equation for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in Caribbean or East Asian populations). The full cohort will be used for our research studies.
