Predictors of coronary artery calcification (CAC) progression in the UKB population

Principal Investigator: Dr Jing-Wei Gao
Approved Research ID: 91090
Approval date: October 27th 2022

Lay summary

Aims: comprehensively evaluate the predictors of coronary artery calcification progression in UK biobank population and investigate the potential therapeutic targets of vascular calcification and reduce cardiovascular events.

Scientific rationale: vascular calcification is a powerful predictor of the incidence rate and mortality of cardiovascular disease, and can be used as an alternative indicator of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis load. However, there is a lack of early prevention models to predict the risk of progression of coronary artery calcification. Biobank is the bank with the most biomedical samples in the world to provide the data information required for this study.

Project duration: three years

Public health impact: to identify atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as early as possible and reduce the occurrence of serious cardiovascular events.
