Proteomics of sudden cardiac death and structural myocardial changes in chronic kidney disease

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is common in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and is caused primarily by ventricular arrhythmia. Myocardial fibrosis, which is prevalent in CKD, often precedes and is a substrate for ventricular arrhythmia and SCD, but the factors contributing to the increased risk of myocardial fibrogenesis in CKD are uncertain. Our study is an innovative approach to advance our understanding of the mechanistic links between plasma proteins, myocardial fibrosis, and arrhythmic SCD.
