Lay summary
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common clinical arrhythmia which can cause heart failure, stroke, and even death. Except for comorbidities that can lead to AF, most risk factors for AF are related to diet and lifestyle. This project will study the potential relationships between different dietary patterns (such as Mediterranean diet, DASH Diet, Flexitarian diet and so on) and AF. Diet is an important player in the development and prognosis of AF, but there is a need to further understand the better choice to the patient with AF. Therefore, we will use the data in the UK Biobank to analyze the relationship between dietary patterns and the occurrence of AF.
We plan to utilize the UK biobank data the next 3 years. The results of this project will indicate the potential associations between different diets and AF. Therefore, these findings could provide some important information about possible causes or factors of the development of AF. At the same time, clinicians can also acquire relevant knowledge to prevent the happening and decrease the risk of AF.
