The correlation and risk factors study of cerebral aneurysm and aortic aneurysm
Approved Research ID: 150061
Approval date: January 30th 2024
Lay summary
Unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) are pathological dilations at branching cerebral arteries and have a prevalence of 2-3% in the adult general population. Varying degrees of co-occurrence of intracranial aneurysms (IA) and aortic aneurysms (AA) have been reported. The purpose of this study was to identify the risk factors predisposing to different aneurysm rupture and to provide a reliable estimation for likelihood of rupture in unruptured intracranial aneurysms. There are differences between the clinical and intrinsic characteristics of patients with unruptured and ruptured intracranial aneurysm. The study will be helpful to make rational decisions regarding the optimal therapeutic strategy for unruptured intracranial aneurysm. The first part of the study is expected to be completed in one year and to validate feasibility for a follow-up research program, and the second part is expected to be completed in three years. We hope that through this study, we can identify high-risk groups of patients and prophylactic change their lifestyle habits or medication to avoid aneurysm rupture.
