Lay summary

Data from the COVID-19 pandemic shows that people living with type 2 diabetes get sicker and have a higher risk of dying from the disease. Several drugs often used to treat type 2 diabetes work in ways that could protect against some of the serious consequences of COVID-19. We will look at all people living with type 2 diabetes that are treated with these different types of drugs and look at how sick they get when also ill with COVID-19. We expect this work will take about 12 months to complete. Our results will inform doctors on how to treat COVID-19 infected people living type 2 diabetes the best way possible.
