UK Biobank’s ambitious goal to take pictures of the vital organs of 100,000 participants gets ever closer.
The brains, hearts, bones and abdomens of more than 40,000 participants have so far been scanned. This already creates the largest ever store of imaged data – and we are not even half way through.
We plan to invite ALL UK Biobank volunteers in due course. If you have not had your invite, do keep an eye out for it. The invites are currently being sent by email, but don’t worry if you don’t have an email address we will be inviting participants by post in the near future too. If you have not had yours yet, please be patient – it will take us another two years to complete recruitment.
Our purpose-built imaging centres are in Newcastle upon Tyne, Stockport, Reading and soon to be Bristol. These are located to provide maximum opportunity for all participants to attend. They are hugely expensive, so we are unable to put them in all the places in which we recruited participants. Unfortunately, that does mean a longer journey for some people, but travel expenses can be claimed and if you can come we should be delighted to see you!
If you have had an invitation to take part but have not yet acted upon it, it is not too late. You can telephone our Participant Resource Centre free of charge on 0800 0 276 276 top register your interest.
