UK Biobank has completed recruitment of 20,000 participants and some of their relatives to help undertake urgent research into the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
Thanks to the data that UK Biobank already holds about our participants, UK Biobank is at the forefront of health research and is in a unique position to enable scientists to carry out ground-breaking research into the COVID-19 pandemic.
We invited a sample of UK Biobank participants to register to take part in a new study to understand previous coronavirus infection in the UK. Of those who expressed an interest in participating a nationally representative group of 20,000 UK Biobank participants, aswell as their adult children and grandchildren have been selected to take part.
Over the next few months, participants will send us blood samples and complete a symptom questionnaire. This will provide researchers with vital data about the extent of previous infection in different regions across the UK and help in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and a safe return to normal life.
