This study investigates the relationship between a high-carbohydrate diet, unhealthy lifestyle factors, systemic inflammation, and cancer risk. Chronic low-grade inflammation plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis, with metabolic disturbances such as hyperglycemia contributing to a pro-inflammatory state.

Using UK Biobank data, we will analyze dietary habits and lifestyle factors in relation to inflammatory markers, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-!), and C-reactive protein (CRP). Additionally, we will calculate systemic inflammatory indices such as the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII) and Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI) from routine blood test parameters.

Our main research questions include:

How does a high-carbohydrate diet influence systemic inflammation, as indicated by IL-6, TNF-!, CRP, SII, and SIRI?
What is the association between inflammatory markers and cancer incidence?
How do unhealthy lifestyle factors (e.g., sedentary behavior, poor diet quality) contribute to increased systemic inflammation and cancer risk?
