A rupture of the arteries carrying blood from our hearts can be fatal. The risk of such a rupture increases with the artery size and age. Currently, cardiologists use artery size to assess the rupture risk and decide whether a patient should be offered a surgery. However, relying only on the size is inadequate, since many other factors can increase the risk. For example, almost half of the ruptures occur in patients who are not eligible for surgery as per the current guidelines. Therefore, in this project, we will design a better criteria that assesses the rupture risk more accurately. The result will be that only those patients who are truly at the risk of rupture will undergo surgery, while those who are not will not require one. This will lead to several lives being saved while also increasing the efficiency of our healthcare system.
