Metabolic syndrome has been a threat to human health worldwide. It is a complex disorder caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, including diet, lifestyle and health care or policy. Genetic factors increase risk of metabolic syndrome, but the extent to which this can be offset by environmental factors remains largely unknown. Therefore, we aim to do a comprehensive 36-month study to investigate whether healthy environmental factors are associated with lower risk of metabolic syndrome regardless of genetic risk. Our study would provide important implications for public policy makers to prevent and treat metabolic syndrome.
