Our research aims to understand how certain changes in our body’s tissues and processes, in particular fibrosis (or scarring), inflammation and metabolic changes, play a role in cancer. We know that cancer isn’t just about rogue cells growing out of control; it’s also about how these cells interact with their environment, including healthy tissues and the body’s responses such as inflammation and metabolic changes. While much cancer research has focused on attacking cancer cells directly, our project looks at the bigger picture. We want to understand how these broader changes contribute to how cancer starts, grows and responds to treatment in different organs such as the lungs, liver, kidneys and heart.
