Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, which are projected to increase over the coming decades due to the increased risk factors and aging of the world’s population. Lung function impairment often coexists with NCDs that may have a significant impact on disease progression. The causal associations between lung function impairment, NCDs and health-related outcomes are likely to be elucidated through the large longitudinal cohort of UK Biobank. We aim to explore the causal associations between lung function impairment and NCDs, and evaluate the relations between lung function impairment and other critical factors in the progression of NCDs. The outcomes will provide new evidence for the relationships between lung function impairment, NCDs and health-related outcomes. Our study has important implications for public health that more attention will be paid to early lung function impairment and the impact on health status, which will raise people’s awareness of keeping respiratory health. The estimated duration of this project is 3 years.
