We want to understand the biology of brain-related disorders, such as autism, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, and so forth. These conditions extend from the normal range of behaviors to impairing disorders, and are caused by both shared and distinct risk factors in genes and the environment. Our goal is to figure out how genes and brain structure and function relate to different behaviors and cognitive abilities, and how the improper regulation and/or development of these relationships lead to disorders. By doing this, we hope to learn more about these brain-related disorders and traits. We also want to consider how factors like where people live and their economic background might affect these relationships. This will help us better understand these conditions and how they work in different situations. In the end, our research could lead to better ways to diagnose and treat these brain-related disorders and improve people’s lives.
