The brain is a highly complex organ undergoing massive changes due to biological aging. Identifying and diagnosing those changes that cause brain disorders and behavioral impairments later in life is a crucial step in ensuring the lasting well-being of our aging society. Medical technology has started to enter the age of big data for which recent progress in artificial intelligence carries huge potential for understanding these fundamental aspects of brain development. Tools like “deep learning” can help scientists to build accurate models of the aging brain, which enable early detection of adverse changes in brain function. Our project will build such tools based on the data available in the biobank resources.
