Identification of residual risks of non-infectious chronic diseases

Non-infectious chronic diseases (NCDs), including cancer, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), kidney diseases, hypertension, diabetes, etc., are now the major cause of death and disability worldwide. The NCDs and the death, illness, and disability they caused have dominated the health care costs worldwide. Although some risk factors, such as hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia associated with NCDs have been identified, and disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment have been carried out for these risk factors, these factors do not account for all NCDs risk. As such, more exploratory studies on new risk factors (e.g., behavior, diet, environment, genetics, circulating metabolites, etc.) are urgently needed in order to better prevent and control of NCDs.
Our project is expected to last 36 months, and will conduct targeted research on a variety of risk exposures that may be associated with NCDs. Findings from this project will provide evidence to support the development of strategies for the identification, prevention, and reduction of the NCDs.
