This cohort study aims to investigate the relationship between pregnancy histories, e.g. multiple pregnancies and inter-pregnancy intervals, gestational age at delivery including prematurity, etc., potential effects on menopause, and the risk/incidence of post-menopausal health conditions. The population studied will be women who have had at least one child and are going through or have gone through menopause. We will stratify including the following potential confounding variables: [1] education level [2] income (quartiles) [3] BMI [4] smoking status and [5] pre-pregnancy hypertension or diabetes. Missing data will be imputed using other covariates. The research will explore whether variations in the length of gestation and premature delivery have a significant impact on a mother’s risk for developing the following post-menopause conditions: cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and osteoporosis. The data will be analyzed using a cox proportional hazards model.
