This project aims to improve how we predict liver cancer risk in people with a condition called Steatotic (“Fatty”) Liver Disease, which is related to obesity and diabetes. Currently, doctors struggle to identify which patients might develop liver cancer, especially those without significant liver scarring. Our research will use data from the UK Biobank to develop a new way of predicting cancer risk by looking at patients’ health information, blood markers, and genetic data. This could help doctors identify liver cancer early in people with SLD, improving their chances of successful treatment. Over three years, we hope to make significant strides in fighting liver cancer by focusing on this growing patient group, benefiting public health by enabling targeted surveillance and better management strategies.
