The integration of multi-omics (microbiomics, metabolomics, proteomics) with pulmonary/intestinal imaging (chest CT, gut MRI) unravels the lung-gut axis in chronic diseases like COPD and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Multi-omics profiling identifies shared biomarkers, such as fecal Akkermansia depletion and elevated sputum IL-17, while imaging quantifies lung structural damage (emphysema, airway remodeling) and intestinal barrier dysfunction . This multimodal approach reveals disease subtypes driven by microbiota-immune crosstalk-for example, short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) deficiencies correlate with both bronchial epithelial hyperplasia and colonic Th17 activation, guiding dual-target therapies and stool metagenomic data predicts exacerbation risks (e.g., Pseudomonas-dominant dysbiosis + bronchiectasis progression) with >25% higher accuracy than FEV1/GOLD criteria. Clinically, this strategy enables early intervention via dietary modulators (butyrate supplementation) or biologics tailored to microbiome-immunity signatures, addressing the systemic nature of lung-gut comorbidity [1-6].
