This research project aims to investigate the role of a brain structure called the choroid plexus in schizophrenia. The choroid plexus produces cerebrospinal fluid and helps regulate the immune response in the brain. There is increasing interest in the role of inflammation and the choroid plexus in psychiatric disorders. The researchers will use genetic data from a large group of people without schizophrenia or any brain disorders to investigate whether alterations in choroid plexus structure or other structural or functional brain alterations are associated with an increased risk of developing schizophrenia. The results of this study may provide new insights into the causes of schizophrenia and help identify potential treatments or biomarkers for the disorder.
