The overarching aim of this project is to use machine-learning approaches to determine the risk of an individual to develop a disease. In other words, we will train computers to be able to detect who is at risk of developing diseases, such as asthma or heart attacks by feeding the computer with collected information about the persons. By looking into people’s DNA together with information such as previous hospital stays, age, and existing medical conditions, we can try to predict a patient’s risk for various diseases. These risks for diseases could then be used to identify persons for preventive therapies, and to deepen our understanding of how the risk for common diseases differ between individuals.
