1. Research question: What is the association between nutrient intake and healthspan?
2. Objective: To evaluate the association of nutrient intake with markers of healthspan
3. Scientific rationale:
Healthspan is defined as the period of life spent in good health, free from chronic diseases and disabilities. Strategies to extend healthspan, or to delay the onset of first age-related chronic infirmity, would bring benefit to the individual, families, and society, especially in the contemporary ageing world. Observational studies suggest that nutrient deficiencies are associated with the aging process. Understanding the role of nutrition in healthy ageing will inform effective interventions to slow down biological ageing and extend healthspan.
UK Biobank is a large-scale biomedical database with data of dietary intake and markers of healthspan. We proposed to use the UK biobank data to investigate the associations between micronutrient intake at baseline and different markers of healthspan.
