Musculoskeletal diseases, such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, low back pain, muscle loss, and arthralgia, significantly impact global health, affecting quality of life and imposing substantial economic burdens. However, our understanding of their complex etiologies, particularly in relation to systemic factors, remains limited. Utilizing the UK Biobank’s comprehensive dataset, we will investigate how systemic factors, including genetic predisposition, lifestyle choices(smoking, diet, and physical activity), and environmental exposures, influence the onset, progression, and severity of musculoskeletal diseases.
The study aims to elucidate the complex interplay between genetic factors and environmental influences in the development of these conditions through a multi-omics approach. The research will integrate multi-omics analysis, such as genomic, transcriptomic, proteomics, and metabolomic data to identify biomarkers and pathways driving musculoskeletal diseases. Lastly, we seek to find out the strategies for early detection, accurate diagnosis, and personalized treatment, thereby reducing the global burden of musculoskeletal diseases.
