Aims: The MAGPIE case-control study will conduct a hypothesis-free GWAS to identify genetic risk factors for adult stroke in Bangladeshis, comparing native residents with UK migrants. Objective: To characterise clinical and genetic contributors to stroke in this population. Rationale: Stroke is a major burden in Bangladesh, with genetic factors accounting for ~40-60% of risk. The MAGPIE, with a target of 6,000 participants and >1,900 already recruited, will deliver the first large-scale GWAS in this population, informing national guidelines and advancing global stroke genetics.
