Aims: Our study aims to promote healthy longevity by addressing the implications of ageing on cognition and neurodegenerative diseases. Specifically, we seek to understand the role of neuroimaging in ageing, cognition, as well the diagnosis and prognostication of neurodegenerative diseases.

Scientific rationale: With the growing ageing population, the prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases is expected to increase significantly. Given that changes in the brain occur before clinical symptoms in these diseases, early identification of at-risk individuals is important. Additionally, neuroimaging is a promising but limited tool as current research overlooks the holistic integration between neuroimaging, non-imaging biomarkers and risk factors. Therefore, our research aims to enhance the effectiveness of neuroimaging in clinical settings and improve our understanding of the implications of ageing on cognition.

Project duration: This research is estimated to span over several years to conduct comprehensive research, data analysis, as well as model development and validation across diverse ethnicities.

Public health impact: Developing predictive models for cognition and validating them across different ethnicities allows us to facilitate early, personalised intervention. This promotes healthy longevity for ageing populations worldwide.
