A growing number of studies indicate that outdoor particulate matter air pollution increases the risk of chronic kidney disease and that the global disease burden of this is vast. For occupational particle exposure, where exposure levels can be much higher, there are few studies however. Recently we found associations between occupational particle exposure and kidney disease in Swedish construction workers. We now want to investigate whether occupational particle exposure is associated with kidney disease or injury also in the large UK Biobank cohort. If such an association exists, the effect on workers health could be substantial and warrant further measures to reduce occupational exposure. The project can be performed within two years of data access.
