Acute myocardial infection (AMI) is the cardiac muscle cell death due to prolonged lack of blood flow and is a common cause of disability and mortality worldwide. Though the mortality and hospitalization of AMI have declined over the years, this trend does not extend to young people below 55 years, urging for more investigation in this age cohort. Genetic factor is an important risk factor in young people with AMI. In this study, we want to evaluate polygenic risk in different early onset AMI subtypes and examine how polygenic risk interact with other demographic, clinical, and psychosocial risk factors to cause AMI. The data from VIRGO will be used as cases and data from MESA and UK Biobank will be used as controls.
