Dementia is a major cause of reduced quality of life and affects approximately 57 million individuals worldwide. High blood pressure (hypertension), particularly at earlier age of diagnosis in midlife, is associated with dementia development. Our project aims to identify what percent (or fraction) of dementia is due to high blood pressure (hypertension). We will identify this at a global, regional and national levels for males, females and across age groups of first diagnosis of hypertension. These results will potentially inform public health authorities for targeting hypertension, particularly in midlife, to prevent dementia cases worldwide.
