Dyslipidemia is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease and is also associated with the incidence of dementia. High levels of cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol are risk factors for vascular dementia, and lipid-lowering therapy is also considered an important means of preventing and treating cardiovascular disease. However, cholesterol plays crucial roles in functions of neurons, and excessive lipid-lowering therapy may cause a higher risk of dementia. Therefore, our study aims to explore the relationship of serum lipid profile with the risk of dementia and major adverse cardiovascular events. In addition, we will also perform subgroup analyses stratified by diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, stroke, atrial fibrillation, family history of dementia, and gender.
The duration for this proposed project is 36 months. This study will evaluate the association of serum lipid profile with the risk of dementia and major adverse cardiovascular events, by which allow us to provide evidence-based guidance of lipid lowering therapy.
