Our research project will develop a novel measure of resilience; the ability to face and cope with adversity, and adapt, recover, learn, and grow from setbacks. We will then examine resilience trajectories in mental and physical health status across time, and identify personal characteristics predicting resilience. Since optimal resilience has been associated with improved wellbeing and performance, our research may contribute knowledge to the underlying factors for resilience and the development of resilience-enhancing strategies both within the general population and in highly-stressful occupational settings.
