Research question:
What is the relationship between socioeconomic deprivation and social isolation on sedentary time in COPD?

How sedentary are people with COPD across different COPD severity levels?

Aims:

The aim of this study is to examine the associations between socioeconomic deprivation, social isolation, and objectively measured sedentary time in people with COPD using UK Biobank data.
To evaluate whether socioeconomic deprivation and social isolation are significantly associated with increased sedentary time in COPD.
Hypothesis
We hypothesise that individuals experiencing greater socioeconomic deprivation and social isolation will exhibit higher sedentary behaviour.
The impact of deprivation and social isolation on the overall sedentary time of people with COPD has not been clearly defined. This gap highlights the need for a deeper understanding of whether these factors impact sedentary behaviour and related health risks. By clarifying these relationships, we can identify modifiable risk factors through targeted interventions, such as improved access to healthcare and education. By identifying key social determinants of sedentary behaviour, this study can inform targeted interventions, optimise COPD management, and shape public health policies to reduce health disparities (Prescott & Vestbo, 1999).
