Obesity is one of many major risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes. Studies show that type 2 diabetes increases the risk of many cancer types including liver, endometrial , pancreatic , colorectal breast , and gallbladder . However, obese individuals without diabetes are also at greater risk for many of these cancers, so whether non-obese type 2 diabetics
are at greater risk of cancer remains undetermined . We aim to uncover whether type 2 diabetes increases the risk of cancer independent of obesity. This study will be undertaken over 3 years and the results will determine whether more emphasis should be allocated to weight management for cancer prevention in type 2 diabetic patients.
